Getting Started

Q: How do I create my first prompt template?

A: It’s simple! Tap the “New Template” button, enter a title and your prompt content using {{placeholder}} syntax for dynamic values, then configure your form fields using the field editor.

Q: What are form fields and how do they work?

A: Form fields allow you to create reusable prompts with dynamic inputs. Use {{fieldName}} in your template content, and the app will automatically create input fields for you to fill when running the template.

Q: How do I import prompts from other formats?

A: Use the Import feature to import prompts from dot-prompt or plain-text formats. The app automatically detects the format and converts it to PromptKit templates.

Features & Functionality

Q: What’s the difference between free and premium features?

A: Free users get unlimited templates, unlimited execution, the iOS keyboard extension, and macOS menu bar access. Premium adds iCloud synchronization across devices, version history, and family sharing for up to 6 members.

Q: How does iCloud synchronization work?

A: Premium users can enable iCloud sync to automatically synchronize all templates, tags, and settings across iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Changes made on one device appear on all others.

Q: Can I use PromptKit on multiple devices?

A: Yes! PromptKit is available on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. Free users can use it on multiple devices locally, while premium users get seamless iCloud synchronization.

Q: How does the keyboard extension work?

A: The iOS keyboard extension provides quick access to your templates and quick paste items directly from any app. Enable it in Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards. (iOS only)

Q: How does the menu bar app work on macOS?

A: On macOS, you can access PromptKit directly from the menu bar for quick template execution and management. The menu bar app provides the same core functionality as the main app. (macOS only)

Form Field Types

Q: What form field types are supported?

A: PromptKit supports: Text, Long Text, Select (dropdown), Toggle, Number, Date, Email, and URL. Each type has appropriate input controls and validation options.

Q: How do I create a select dropdown with multiple options?

A: Choose “Select” as the field type, then enter your options separated by commas in the options field. The app will create a dropdown or segmented control based on the number of options.

Q: Can I add validation to form fields?

A: Yes! Form fields support validation rules like required fields, minimum/maximum length, regular expressions, and numeric ranges.

Privacy & Security

Q: Is my data stored securely?

A: Yes. All your data is stored locally on your device using SwiftData with encryption at rest. Premium users can optionally sync via iCloud with end-to-end encryption.

Q: Does PromptKit collect personal data?

A: We don’t collect personal identifiable information. We only collect minimal, anonymized usage analytics for app improvement. Read our Privacy Policy for details.

Q: Can I use PromptKit offline?

A: Absolutely! PromptKit works completely offline. Only premium users who choose to enable iCloud sync require an internet connection for synchronization.

Troubleshooting

Q: My keyboard extension isn’t showing up. What should I do?

A: Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards, add PromptKit, and ensure “Allow Full Access” is enabled for the keyboard to access your templates.

Q: iCloud sync isn’t working. How can I fix it?

A: Ensure you’re signed into iCloud on all devices, have sufficient iCloud storage, and that PromptKit has permission to use iCloud. Try toggling sync off and on again.

Q: My templates disappeared after an update. What happened?

A: Your data is safe! Try restarting the app or your device. If the issue persists, check if you’re logged into the correct iCloud account or contact support.

Q: How do I backup my templates?

A: Enable iCloud sync (premium) for automatic backup across all your devices.

Premium & Subscription

Q: How do I upgrade to Premium?

A: Tap the Premium button in the app and choose a subscription plan. All payments are processed securely through Apple’s App Store.

Q: Can I share my Premium subscription with family?

A: Yes! Premium includes Family Sharing support for up to 6 family members through Apple’s Family Sharing feature.

Q: How do I cancel my subscription?

A: Manage your subscription through your Apple ID settings in the App Store or Apple ID settings. You can cancel at any time and will continue to have access until the end of the billing period.
